Overview

Georgetown University’s Global Human Development Program is pleased to partner with the Peace Corps to offer the Paul D. Coverdell Fellowship Program for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers.

Details

As part of the program, returned volunteers who are admitted to Georgetown’s Global Human Development Program as a Coverdell Fellow will receive a minimum of a 33% tuition scholarship funding per year and the ability to apply for graduate assistantships. Coverdell Fellows are eligible for additional merit-based scholarships based on the competitiveness of their application. These additional scholarships may cover partial or up to full tuition. Once enrolled, all fellows complete internships in underserved American communities, allowing them to bring home and expand upon the skills they learned as volunteers.
Additionally, the Global Human Development Program will waive the application fee for all returned Peace Corps volunteers who apply to the program. Email ghdinfo@georgetown.edu to request an application fee waiver.
The mission of the Global Human Development Program is to prepare the next generation of development professionals to work with public sector agencies, private businesses, and non-profit organizations to reduce world poverty, achieve human dignity, and make a difference in our global community. Peace Corps volunteers have similar goals when they go abroad in service of local and global communities, and embody values that successful development practitioners need. Returned Peace Corps Volunteers bring in-depth knowledge of their country of service and its particular development challenges. By enrolling in the Global Human Development Program, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers are able to draw on their experiences to add to classroom discussions, expand on their understanding of the needs of the communities in which development practitioners serve, and continue to develop language and leadership skills.
To be considered for the fellowship, applicants must submit all required application materials:
  • Online application
  • Personal statement
  • Supplemental data sheet
  • Official transcripts and test scores (GREs and TOEFL/IELTS)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Peace Corps Description of Service: this can be uploaded as a PDF in either the "Publications" or "Honors and Awards" sections of the online application.
The fellowship will be awarded based on the overall strength of the application. The deadline for admission is January 15.
